This week the biggest news was that Lily came to visit with us while Uncle Neil was on a trip. Dad picked her up on Monday and we brought her back on Thursday. It was fun having her for a few days, but Mom and Dad both had allergic reactions. Mom especially - she was not feeling well, and is just starting to feel normal again on Sunday night.
Happy to have a pup in the house again.
Here she comes!
Looking out the window like I used to do with Duke.
Relaxing in the evening.
Out for a morning walk.
Lily slept on the couch with Dad - curled up at his feet.
Lily liked to take Mom's spot on the couch during the day.
Mom got her spot back.
Bringing Lily home.
We had some other things to do in town, along with taking Lily home. I went to see the orthodontist, we went to the flag store, and we met Jonathan at BAM to fill the bag of free LEGO. Only three more of those to go. After filling the bag we went to a park for a picnic and then to Coldstone for some ice cream.
Another six months of braces for sure.
Having some fun with flags.
My choices: Japan, a pirate flag, and the Union Jack.
All done!
At the ice cream shop.
Dad built this orchid while we finished listening to The Hound of the Baskervilles on Thursday night.
Friday we went to the park with Jonathan and Nick and Phoebe.
Playing with Phoebe.
Standing by the dam we built.
On Saturday there was an event at the museum - some woodworkers were showing off their skills and tools. Of course, I also spent some time inside talking to the docents about history. We were there for about four hours.
Dad is planning ot build a bench like this one for our shop class.
Talking to the guy who carves spoons and cups out of wood - I am holding a cup in my hands.
Here he is carving out the cup with a special tool he developed.
Talking to Lee in the museum. I talked to Nathan and Bill as well, but no pictures of them.
Saturday night we made a rhubarb tart from the last of the rhubarb for the year.
Rolling the dough.
Getting some fresh lemon juice.
Chopping rhubarb.
The finished product! It was delicious!
Ha! We gave Dad the smallest piece!
Sunday morning Dad and I went on a bike ride, then we worked on my paper about the Henry V movie. I continued to work on my paper while Dad mowed and cleaned up the car. Mom worked on getting school ready for the next couple of weeks. Then it was time for another food lab.
Getting veggies ready to roast
Not too sure about this pesto stuff...it looks gross.
Getting the surface ready to press our sandwiches.
Buttering them up...
We don't have a panini press, so we used some bricks from outside.
Veggie cubanos - they turned out great!
I was wrong about the pesto...these sandwiches are very tasty.
Mom was still puzzling this week - here are her completed puzzles. Dad helped a litte on the one with the flowers.
This week I finished reading Lone Ranger and Tonto Fist-Fight in Heaven by Sherman Alexie. Dad and I listened to more Sherlock - we finished The Hound of the Baskervilles and also listened to "The Empty Room" and "The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans." All were very good, but the last one was the best. I really like Sherlock and Dr. Watson.
On the screen for films this week we had: Party Girl, about a young lady who decides to become a librarian; Hail Satan? a documentary about The Satanic Temple (which is really not what you think it is); Desk Set, the classic Hepburn and Tracy movie about a computer invading a library; and Fire of Love, a documentary about two married volcanologists who are pioneers in their field. We also started watching the recent BBC series Sherlock, which brings Sherlock into the modern day, and another episode of Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain - this time he was in Peru.
Aside from all of that, in my free time I worked on my great leaders project, writing about my favorite generals and admirals. I also watched some documentaries on History Hit and the new season of Ninjago.
And I think that is probably enough for one week. Take care!
