Day 3: Oh, Canada! and Niagara Falls

2023-09-16

We survived our night in the dumpy hotel room that had a wall missing in the bathroom. Even the free breakfast was a disappointment - all they had was pre-packaged food, no waffles or pancakes or oatmeal.

Dad is standing next to the tub. Mom took the picture from the window on the other side of the room.

We got a good early start and headed to the border crossing in Port Huron. We waited for one car to pay the toll and one when we entered Canada - no problem.

Going over the Blue Water Bridge.

The view from the bridge.

Canada! My first time in another country!

When in Canada...

We drove across southern Ontario, stopping in Hamilton to have lunch and see Lake Ontario. I also took the opportunity to throw a rock in the lake, so I just need to toss one in Lake Erie to get all five Great Lakes.

Some native geese.

Tossing a rock in to Lake Ontario.

We took a detour through Hamilton to avoid a big traffic backup on the QEW, then we drove to Niagara Falls. There were so many people! We spent almost half an hour on the bridge trying to get through and then there were crowds everywhere we looked. But we saw the Falls - very impressive!

My face when I saw the Falls for the first time.

The view from the Rainbow Bridge.

For a minute or so, Mom and Dad left me in Canada while they went into the US (we were stopped right on the boundary line).

From the Falls we went to see Lake Erie so I could throw my final rock. (Here are the others: Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron)

There it goes - I made sure it was a big one!

Mom wanted to toss one, too.

With Dad, the Peace Bridge in the background.

A Frank Lloyd Wright boathouse we found down by the lake.

Eating our last donuts from Timmy's.

From the lake we headed east out of Buffalo to Victor, New York. The drive was beautiful: very much like driving through the Driftless Zone back home. Much more relaxing than taking the interstate.

Our hotel room tonight is awesome! It has two very large rooms. My room is bigger than the one we all shared last night, and Mom and Dad have even more space. We got take-out from Mark's Pizza, a local place - and it was awesome. Then Dad and I went to Zoe's, the ice cream place next door. The ice cream was great, too.

And that is all for Day 3!
