Day 4: Seneca Falls and Watkins Glen State Park

2023-09-17

This morning we slept in a little, had a good breakfast, and then drove over to Seneca Falls to see the Women's Rights National Historical Park. It was really cool - there was a courtyard with a water wall, a very well done museum, and the restored building where the Women's Rights Convention was held in 1848.

Reading signs while we wait for the museum to open.

Reading the inscription on the water wall.

Inside the museum.

Mom on the stage in the Wesleyan Chapel where the convention was held.

View from the stage.

Getting my Junior Ranger badge for this National Park.

Just across the street from the Women's Rights Museum is the bridge that inspired the movie It's a Wonderful Life. So we went to see it and drove across it.

Here's the bridge.

The bridge is on George Bailey Lane...

...and Bedford Falls Boulevard.

Across we go!

From the bridge we drove over to Seneca Lake and then drove down the west side of the lake to Watkins Glen to see the gorge. It was beautiful and amazing...and there were a lot of steps!

Here's the gorge from the first bridge.

Walking under a waterfall.

In a tunnel!

Me on one of the cool bridges.

The yellow guy on the bridge is me waving to Mom.

Me on another bridge.

We walked out of the gorge and then headed to our hotel for the night, just outside Cooperstown. We took a very scenic backroad route that led us through so many beautiful valleys and on a few crazy steep and narrow streets in Ithaca, as well as a windy little road through a very dense state forest. It was a very nice drive and we listened to Stuart McLean tell stories from the Vinyl Cafe along the way.

Our hotel for the night is good - two rooms again, with a little kitchen. We were there by supper and we had plenty of time to relax.

And that was Day 4. Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
