Building

2025-08-03

This week the air quality was terrible, so aside from a trip to the pool, we stayed home. I spent most of my days in the basement working on various LEGO projects, including making several iterations of a building for my medieval town. Mom worked on finishing up my curriculum for the coming year, and Dad was at the library working.

At the pool with the Usual Suspects.

I got a much needed haircut on Friday.

We've been eating lasagna this week - I'm Garfield!

On Saturday Dad came down to help with some building. He made a version of an inn, but we decided to try again and took it apart before bed. Sunday morning we tried again. And I am happy with the results.

In progress.

Main floor dining room - mostly finished.

Getting started on the second floor.

Some of the mess made while working.

This is the finished building.

The roof comes off so you can see the second floor.

Bedroom #1.

Bedroom #2.

Dad is calling this the upstairs sushi bar.

The stone oven.

Some kegs.

One of the dining tables.

After we finished the building, we went for a long bike ride out to one of the parks where we go for recess sometimes. The air was finally a little better, so we tried to get in a little extra exercise to make up for being in the house most of the week.

In other news, I finished reading the last Calvin and Hobbes book this week, and I started a new book called Will in Scarlet, about Will Scarlet from the Robin Hood stories. Dad and I have been listening to James, which is the Huck Finn story told from Jim's perspective. We are enjoying hearing the other side of the story, and without some of the excruciating detail we found kind of tedious in Huck Finn. Also, the voice actor has such an amazing voice, which is so pleasant to listen to. Plus, the book is funny.

For viewing, we are working to finish Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. We are almost done with season six, so one more season to go! On Saturday night Dad and I watched a samurai movie, Yojimbo, which is one of Dad's favorites. It was made by Akira Kurosawa, who directed Hidden Fortress, one of the movies that directly inspired Star Wars. I liked it - but it was kind of strange to be reading a movie.

And that was my week! Take care!
