Holiday Weekend

2025-05-25

Mom and I did some school, but it was a short week as we started our holiday weekend early. Dad and I went on some bike rides, and we built some LEGO - Dad put together the new Chopper set. And I did a lot of building - working on more microscale ships.

Our droid collection - Chopper, R2-D2, and C-3PO.

Jonathan's aircraft carrier.

My Japanese Imperial fleet.

The Bismark and HMS Hood.

The Flying Dutchman.

The Black Pearl.

The Monitor and the Merrimack.

On Thursday we went on an adventure. First stop was a surprise: Bricks and Minifigs! (we forgot to get pictures of this one). And the second stop was the LEGO Store!

Packing boxes at the Pick-a-Brick Wall.

Next: another Bricks and Minifigs!

I am a minifig!

A last look at minifigs before we left.

They had this awesome display of a Star Destroyer crashing.

Then we met Kara, Josh, Freya, GG, and Grandpa Kevin at the State Fair Kick-Off.

Being silly.

Playing trivia.

At the big slide.

Me and Mom.

All of us.

Friday morning, after a hotel breakfast of waffles and scrambled eggs, the adventure continued at the art museum. We met GG, Grandpa Kevin, and Kara there...along with many busloads of school kids on end-of-the-year field trips. Here are a few of the highlights.

The Van Gogh.

A Corinthian helmet.

A glass jar from the 1st or 2nd century CE.

Dad said this was the bike Neil had when he was my age - and now one like it is hanging on the wall in a museum.

We sat in on the talk about the mandala given by one of the school group leaders.

The Tibetan room - my favorite part of this trip to the museum.

Then we went to see Zelda...

I also went to another Bricks and Minifigs - the one closest to Freya's house - with GG, Grandpa Kevin, Kara, and Freya.

And I finally got to meet Blake - the guy that got my Mom and Dad together.

Me, Blake, and Dad.

While Dad was visiting with Blake, things got a little wild in the backyard and I broke one of the garage windows.

We had pizza for supper in the backyard, and then went for some ice cream before calling it a day.

Kara made some funny pictures of us...

Saturday we made a quick trip to IKEA to get some veggie hotdogs and another shelf for LEGO, and then we went to the LEGO Store again - there were more masonry bricks to collect!

Then we went to the newest Bricks and Minifigs!

We finally saw a Colosseum!

And after that we went to see Great-grandma Muriel. We watched baseball with her and we had some dessert that Kara brought.

Grandma enjoying some whipped cream filled krumkake.

Kara let me have a plate of whipped cream.

Mom enjoyed some, too.

Me, Freya, and Muriel.

Playing with our food again...

After the game was over, we headed home, heading cross-country to avoid the city and traffic.

Sunday was a quiet day at home. Mostly. Dad did some yard work and Jonathan and Caroline came over for a short visit after lunch.

In the basement playing with LEGO, of course.

In other news, Dad and I finished reading Lamb this week, and we all watched Spaceballs. We also watched some Big Bang Theory, and I am almost done with And Then There Were None.

And that was my week. Take care!
