We had so many pictures from our trip - I am going to do a post for each day instead of trying to cram them all into one big post. Here's the post for Monday.
Picking up where I left off, we were in Charleston, South Carolina to go to Patriots Point and Fort Sumter. It was a beautiful day and we got an early start - we were the first visitors to get in to see the submarine, the battleship, and the aircraft carrier.
Me and Mom walking across to the boats.
At the entrance to the USS Clamagore.
You can see how small it is inside - this door is smaller than me!
After the Clamagore, we went on the USS Laffey, a destroyer. This was an amazing ship - in one battle it was hit by six kamikaze planes and four bombs and it still didn't sink!
Onboard the Laffey.
Climbing up to sit in the captain's chair.
I'm the captain!
In the radar room.
We saw some other cool things on the Laffey - like the rear gun, which we got to go inside to see what it was like when the ship was attacked. And we watched a really good video about the Battle of Okinawa on April 16, 1945.
And then we went on the USS Yorktown, a WWII aircraft carrier. It was massive!
Here's me by the elevator door.
This is an F6F Hellcat that flew off a carrier like the Yorktown.
This is a TF-9J Cougar.
An SH-3G Sea King.
An F/A-18A Hornet.
Pretty sure this is an F-14.
Me and Mom.
The ship's bell.
There were more planes on the Yorktown, but we'll move on to some pictures from the Vietnam exhibit.
Me and Daddy in the watchtower.
Me with an M42 tank.
We didn't spend a lot of time in the Vietnam exhibit because we had to catch the boat to Fort Sumter.
On the boat with Mom.
Passing by the Yorktown.
Approaching Fort Sumter.
In the museum at the fort.
Looking back into the bay from the top of the fort.
Me in front of the flag.
Looking at the flag from inside the fort.
We took the boat back to Patriots Point. We saw a couple of big container ships, and a car carrier ship from Japan, along the way. It was pretty warm and we were tired from climbing up and down ladders and stairs in all the boats and the fort, so we decided to call it a day and went back to the hotel.
Later at supper time we went to a place called Coastal Crust - which had some really good pizza and an amazing homemade ice cream sandwich. Plus, there was a little playground and I got to climb and slide and play hide and seek with some other kids who were there.
Daddy's favorite kind of bar - a pizza bar!
Having some fun.
Checking out the dessert menu.
We got the last ice cream sandwich - and it was soooooo good!
After supper, we went back to the hotel to relax for a while before bed. It was a good day.
