Day 11: Fenway Park

2023-09-24

Baseball today! Red Sox vs. White Sox! I really cannot believe we went to Fenway! This post will be mostly pictures from our tour and the game (so not as much reading as yesterday).

We left plenty early to get to our tour, having learned that Boston traffic can only be depended on to be bad. Despite having trouble yet again with roads without marked lanes, turns that aren't really turns, and drivers that will try to squeeze into any size gap, we made it to our parking spot by the Boston Museum of Art with enough time to take a look at the grounds.

We found a Zen garden.

The facade of the Boston Museum of Art - I counted 20 columns.

A World War II monument - looks like the landscapers need to get in and do some work.

We found some Victory Gardens, which Mom is a big fan of.

And then we arrived at the stadium....

My first look at Fenway.

Me with Ted Williams

Inside the stadium!

Wow...

A short clip of me walking onto the field.

Got to hug Wally, the Green Monster!

The visitor's dugout, the one we were close to.

Who knew the stadium had a rooftop garden?

On the Green Monstah (the tour guide said English in Boston only has 25 letters - there is no R).

And that was the end of the tour. Then we had to go out and come back in with our tickets for the game. There was some chaos with a few thousand Little Leaguers who were at today's game...but they were out of the way long before game time.

Waiting to go in for the game.

The view from our seats.

Waiting in the rain before the game.

The bullpen had a little Red Bull toast before the game started.

After the 6th inning was finished the tarp went out.

More rain. More waiting.

Dad and I went to look at the red seat where the longest home run ever hit in the park landed. Ted Williams hit one to this spot, 502 feet from home plate.

That's a long way to hit a baseball.

Dad said he thought the field was too wet to be playable again today.

Tired of standing in the rain. By the way, if our bellies look bigger it's because we are hiding our baseball gloves in our jackets so they don't get wet.

Mom is happy Dad and I decided not to wait to see if the game would start up again.

I don't remember how long we waited after the tarp went out before we decided we should leave, but it wasn't too long after that the game was called for rain. So we didn't miss the end of the game. Mom was sad we didn't get to sing Sweet Caroline for the seventh inning stretch, but as there was no seventh inning, there was no song. We did see two home runs, one over the Green Monster, so that was exciting. I wish the Red Sox had won, but rain and the White Sox stopped that from happening.

We made it back to the car easily enough, and we made it home without any traffic problems. We all warmed up in the hotel and ended up watching Avatar on TV.

What a day! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!
