We Escaped!

2021-06-27

This week was FULL. Zeke came over and we played in the pool, we pretended to exercise, and we went for ice cream.

The water was c-c-cold!

Playing at exercising.

Out for ice cream.

Atticus came over and we played with LEGO, played video games and colored, and we went out for ice cream.

Playing LEGO City with Atticus.

Angie came over for lunch, and then we went and picked up Sawyer from work, and went out for ice cream.

Me and Sawyer.

Sawyer's cat Percy came out to say hello.

On Saturday, Dad and I went to see Grandpa Al and Grandma Wynne for a little bit, and Dad did some shopping. He also gave me a haircut.

Nice and short.

Sunday morning was nice, so we went on an adventure. We drove to Dyersville to visit Field of Dreams.

In the corn.

I'm on deck.

Time to hit!

Here it comes....

Me and Mom at the flag/foul pole in left field.

Playing catch with Dad.

The MLB field set up for the White Sox and Yankees to play later this summer. We couldn't get closer - there are security guards.

In front of the house.

Then we continued on to Galena, and got to go swimming for a little bit. We had the pool to ourselves, except for one other person who was just using the pool to get some exercise. It was fun.

Waterslide!

Again and again!

In the pool with Dad.

Wheee!

After swimming, we went to see President Grant's house, and Grant's Park. Then we walked around downtown Galena and looked at the old buildings.

Looking at the exhibit that shows all the presidential pets!

At President Grant's house.

Me with Grant's statue in Grant's Park.

The Napoleon.

Me and my favorite cannon.

The Blakely Rifle.

This is one of the guns that fired on Fort Sumter, where we were last year when the pandemic was just getting started.

We ended up spending the night in Galena, so Dad had to take a day off work. Technically the next few pictures are from Monday, but I'm putting them in this week's blog anyway.

Monday morning we went back to the park and back downtown - it was much quieter than Sunday afternoon. We spent some more time exploring.

Daddy and I climbed up these steps. Mommy is waiting for us at the bottom, across the little parking lot.

Discussing how this street is similar to a Roman road.

Checking out the blacksmith shop.

Learning the difference between coal and coke.

We left Galena a little before noon and headed home. We stopped at Effigy Mounds on the way. We walked around a little, but it was hot and I think we got tired out faster because we haven't been going on adventures much in the past year.

Learning about the different kinds of mounds that have been found around the Effigy Mounds National Monument.

Walking the trail and learning about the people who lived here long ago.

The rest of the trip home was uneventful. We made it home before the rain started, so that was good. And that was my week, plus a day. Take care!
