Vacation: Kansas

2017-07-09

This week we started out on a little trip. Monday I was at Grandpa Al and Grandma Wynne's, and I went to see GG and Grandpa Kevin.

Walking Duke with Grandpa Al.

Tuesday: Mom and Dad picked me up and we started our vacation. We met Kara, Josh, and Freya on the road and then we went to the Living History Farm to celebrate the 4th of July. We looked at the town and the farms, and we watched a holiday program in the church. We also had some snacks and watched part of an old-time baseball game.

Mom and Dad - just before we left on our trip.

Me in the backseat, ready to roll!

Me and Freya celebrating the 4th.

Doing a little printing with Freya.

We did it!

Admiring the draft horses.

Goofing around with Freya.

Watermelon with my dad.

Time for ice cream.

End of the day picnic on the hotel bed with Freya.

Wednesday: we went to the Henry Zoo! We looked at a lot of animals, including a baby giraffe, a cheetah, and a rhino. We also rode the old steam train, but my favorite thing to do was the skyfari ride. We also went into the big dome to see the desert, to the butterfly house, the gorillas, and Mom and I rode the carousel.

Watching the train come in.

My favorite zoo animal.

Here's the sign where the giraffe cross the road.

Elephants!

Brushing goats with Mom.

This goat is named Winnie.

Waiting for the train.

Here it is.

Ooooh - it's a train from the old days (actually it is the same age as our house, built in 1890).

Auntie Kara and Freya.

Me and Momma on the train.

A cheetah poking his head up.

On the skyfari ride - way up in the air.

Lions sleeping in the sun.

Giraffes from the air!

Rhino from the air!

This butterfly really liked Mom - he stayed on her glasses the whole time we were looking at the butterflies.

Under the desert dome.

Looking at the wall paintings.

Freya, Josh, and Kara.

Me and Daddy.

Me with a gorilla.

Riding the carousel with Mom.

Last ride on the skyfari - and the train went right under us!

My crayons melted while we were in the zoo.

Thursday: we went to a smaller zoo in Kansas with Great-grandpa Les and Great-grandma Muriel, as well as Freya, Josh, and Kara.

Bull snake - slithering loose.

The zoo party.

Mommy and Great-grandpa Les.

Looking at all the stuffed animals in the museum.

Playing with the robot lizard.

Friday: I spent the day at Bruce and Julia's house visiting. Kara and Josh were watching me because Mommy and Daddy went to someplace called the Land Institute. When they were done with that, we went swimming in the pool at Bruce and Julia's house.

Playing with the new toy Kara found for me.

Mommy at the Land Institute.

Another one.

Swimming in the little pool.

Saturday: In the morning I stayed at the hotel with Daddy, Josh, and Freya, while Mommy and Kara took Great-grandpa Les and Great-grandma Muriel on an adventure. We went swimming and then out for lunch. Kara, Josh, and Freya left to go home, and I spent the afternoon with Mommy at the hotel because we needed a little rest. And I got to stay up late to watch a movie about the Titanic.

Reading The Cat in the Hat to Freya.

Still reading.

Sunday: we picked up Great-grandma Muriel in the morning and we drove to the Tallgrass Prairie preserve. We looked around the big stone barn and the ranch house, then we took a bus ride out into the prairie to see some bison. But the bison were all hiding in the shade by some water because it was hot. I was sad, but the bus ride was fun. We went out for lunch when we were done, and then stopped at a little town with lots of toy horses on the way back. Then we said goodbye to everyone because it was our last day in Kansas.

Stone barn.

Me and Daddy talking to the ranger about the bird we were watching - it was a Mississippi Kite.

Out on the prairie.

Looking for the bison that are supposed to be out here.

Me, Momma, and Poppa.

Now with Great-grandma Muriel .

Saying good bye to everyone: Great-grandma Muriel, Great-grandpa Les, Bruce, Julia, and Jade (the dog).

And that was my week. Look for more exciting adventures next time. Take care!
